Caps for a Cause

The Michael Phelps Foundation is proud to offer the Caps for a Cause program along with other philanthropic opportunities.

Non-profit organizations committed to growing the sport of swimming and/or encouraging children to live healthy, active lives and/or providing mental health services may apply for a silent or live auction item for their fundraising event.  The completion of an application does not guarantee a donation. If awarded, the applicant will be notified of the level based on event/organization details.

Caps will be awarded monthly, and the recipient will receive an autographed Michael Phelps swim cap within 2 weeks of the decision.  Your organization will be recognized on our website and social media.  Following your fundraising event, a report must be completed within 30 days.

The applicant must be the (501 c3) organization receiving the auction item.  Fundraisers to benefit an individual person or family are ineligible.  To qualify for a cap, the organization’s mission must be focused on one or more of the following:

  • Promoting water safety.
  • Providing services to the at-risk and underserved.
  • Providing pool and swimming activities that encourage increased participation in the sport of swimming, especially for people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience the sport.
  • Providing mental health services.

PLEASE NOTE:

We only accept the application form. Supplementary information will not be considered or reviewed.

All accepted applications must submit the amount raised within 30 days of the event.

We receive hundreds of auction item requests per year.  Due to the limited number of items available, we are sometimes unable to fulfill all requests even if the organization meets all of the criteria listed above. If you do not hear from us, we have not been able to meet your request.

Selected organizations will receive only one cap per the calendar year. This helps us in our attempt to help the greatest number of organizations as possible. If the item is lost, stolen or misplaced, the MPF will be unable to replace it.

We will not accept personal items to be autographed. Due to the volume and frequency of requests, any item MPF receives will not be returned.

Caps may not be resold in any fashion except for fundraising by the applying organization.

Receipt of an autographed item in previous years does not guarantee subsequent donations.
